Fall hikes hit differently. One day it’s bright and warm, the next it feels like it’s about to snow. The air shifts by the hour, and somehow every forecast says “partly something.” So instead of packing for one type of day, pack for three.

We made a simple list that works for most one-day hikes upstate — from Cold Spring to the Catskills. Think of it as a system, not a checklist. Build your day bag based on the weather you wake up to.

You can download our printable version or copy the list below into your Notes app before your next trip upstate.
